Hi All,

Last week (24-26 June 2011), 17 members from R&D department and together with 33 VS staffs from other department joined the teambuilding programme organized by VS Group. A lot of experience and knowledge we get.

At the first day, after we arrived ,the fasilitator (consultant that manage the programme), Miss Aki Lai give us a motivation slots. All members become more enthusiastic.

For the second day, the activity become more challenging.One of that the Rafflesia Adventure. We all need to take 4WD. It's a new experience! After that, we went to Orang Asli Village for Pipe Blowing Activity. We also went to Boh Tea Plantation.Very calm atmosphere there. Then, we went to Gunung Brinchang and do the group activity- V.S Industry Giant Flag. Each group need to complete the V.S Flag.This task was fun.And all of we need to apply the teamwork spirit.After finish the task, each group must present the flag criteria.

The third day, all of participants enjoy walking to an interesting places around Cameron Highlands. We went to Rose Centre,Cactus Valley,Strawberry Farm,Bee Farm,Market. Also not forget to snap a lot of photos for the memories.

What we can said, this programme gave us new experience and at the same time it can built our teamwork spirit.

Dear all,

Here I am, jotting down some stuff in this little column so that even after leaving this department, my wishes will still be with all of you here.

It has been exactly one year since I came. Throughout this whole year, I have learnt things that are priceless. The guidance that were given, care that I have been showered with, companionship from colleagues and even some conflicts between people which will never be forgotten. All this experiences are irreplaceable and will be deeply engraved in my heart.

Despite the fact that this department consist of more than 20 people; every one of you are jewels to me – in the sense that I have something to learn from everyone here. It is the uniqueness in everyone that makes this department whole. I hope (though I’m not qualified to bear hope for R&D – but I insist on “hope’ing’”) everyone will continue living as one big family – to learn from one another and most of all, as a family, to make use of the strength to bring the best out of yourself.

Guess that’s all that I can think of right now. So many ineffable feelings but to round them up, One year may be too short for work experiences but One year is just right for me to steer to the direction I vaguely see. If it’s not for everyone here, I might still be lost in the midst of the sea. It is here that I gathered my courage to move towards my dream.

Reinforcing what I’ve said before signing off, make use of what you have here to bring the best out of yourself and do not be afraid of setbacks as it’s the ups and downs in life that maketh a man (or woman :P). Just do it.

CERAMAH DAN PAMERAN TEMPAT KERJA BEBAS DADAH OLEH AGENSI ANTI DADAH KEBANGSAAN NEGERI JOHOR

Hai,

Pada 2 Jun 2011, bermula jam 10.30 pagi,satu ceramah dan pameran yang bertempat di VS 18 telah dianjurkan oleh Agensi AntiDadah Kebangsaan (ADK).

Banyak input yang diperolehi daripada ceramah tersebut. Antaranya, penerangan tentang jenis-jenis dadah, faktor yang mendorong pengambilan dadah,statistik penagih dadah di Malaysia,kesan dan impak pengambilan dadah. Penceramah menekankan pentingnya keprihatinan masyarakat terhadap isu dadah.

Peserta ceramah juga diberi borang keahlian Rakan Anti Dadah (RADA). Dengan penyertaan peserta sebagai RADA, mampu membantu dengan cara memberi maklumat tentang isu dadah kepada pihak berkuasa.

Selesai sesi ceramah, peserta diberi peluang untuk bertanyakan apa jua soalan berkenaan isu dadah.

Sebelum bersurai,peserta melihat pameran tentang bahaya dadah. Pegawai Agensi Anti Dadah memberi penerangan dan menunjukkan bahan-bahan yang sering digunakan oleh penagih dadah.

Kira-kira jam 12.30 tengahari, ceramah pun tamat dan majlis bersurai. Banyak input peserta perolehi.

Yesterday, our department successfully organizes R&D Hari Raya Open House.
All R&D staff celebrate this open house with joyful. A lot of variety foods prepare, such as: nasi impit (similar as ketupat),lemang, kuah kacang,rendang ayam,sambal goreng,kuah lodeh,ayam masak merah, mee goreng, spaghetti, fruits, bubur kacang and biskut raya..

If we have time, we will organize again this open house for next year…

Automotive employment, production up, but now steel, power worries surface

Concerns over steel price increases and availability, as well as the impact of the recent electricity price hikes have emerged in South Africa’s automotive industry, just as it started to show signs of recovery following a global recession which had decimated new vehicle sales last year.

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa) on Monday reported that the country’s car and truck vehicle manufacturers added 1 196 new jobs to their payroll in the first quarter of the year, to reach employment levels of 31 357 people, compared with the 30 161 positions filled at the end of last year.

The association said the increase in head count was attributable to additional recruitment at three of the industry’s major employers.

Domestic vehicle production was expected to rise from 374 000 units in 2009, to 443 000 units in 2010 – an increase of 18,4%.

Vehicle assembly industry capacity utilisation levels had also recuperated to 69,6% for the first quarter of 2010 at passenger car plants, following a 59,4% rate prevalent in 2009. This was, however, still down on 2006‘s 80,1%.

Light commercial vehicle capacity utilisation levels increased to 65,1% from 56,5%, medium commercial vehicle to 69,6% from 64,6%, and heavy trucks to 74,1% from 66,1%.

Naamsa on Monday also revised it vehicle sales projections for 2010 upwards, and now expected the market to grow by around 14% – to 451 500 units – compared with 2009, after forecasting growth of a much more conservative 7% earlier this year.

Naamsa director Nico Vermeulen said that South Africa’s sales growth for the first quarter of 2010 was higher than in the rest of the world.

“By and large, it is a slightly more positive picture for the local industry,” he added.

However, it was not all good news as Naamsa reported that it expected local component pricing to be “significantly impacted” by the Eskom electricity price increase which came into effect on April 1, although it also noted that the magnitude of this remained murky.

The association added that several vehicle and component manufacturers had also raised concern over steel availability and steel pricing implications arising from steelmaker ArcelorMittal South Africa's (AMSA's) dispute with iron-ore supplier Kumba Iron Ore.

Kumba earlier this year ended a deal which allowed AMSA to obtain ore at a discounted rate, stating that it would sell its product to the steelmaker at market rates, as from March 1.

However, AMSA argued that the long-term preferential supply agreement was still valid, but noted that it would need to increase prices by $80/t to ease the impact of the dispute.

“Steel is a big issue – for more than one vehicle manufacturer – as are Eskom’s price increases and the increase in fuel costs,” said Vermeulen. “The combined effect of all of this is undermining the competitiveness of South Africa’s parts and vehicles in international markets, and it creates pressure on the affordability of vehicles in the local market.”

Secrets of effective feedback

People become defensive whenever feedback is given. This is because it is not given in the right way. David Lee provides some guidelines for giving feedback below:

So many managers tell me that providing constructive feedback—or at least feedback they hope will be perceived as constructive—is one of their biggest challenges. All too often they avoid giving it, because they know it’s going to be awkward and could possibly make matters worse.

The effects of ineffective feedback
When a manager attempts to give constructive feedback, but does it ineffectively, the employee may:

Feel misunderstood—and therefore hurt and resentful
Feel put down and disrespected
Believe that all the good things he does aren’t noticed or appreciated
Conclude the boss doesn’t know what he’s talking about
Not understand exactly what is expected of him and so may continue to make the same mistakes
Lose his motivation and become less likely to go the extra mile when necessary
How to avoid giving ineffective feedback
The ability to give truly valuable feedback depends not only upon knowing what to do but also what NOT to do.

DO NOT:

1. Sugarcoat negative feedback. When you’re overly concerned about triggering a negative response, it’s natural to try to sugarcoat negative feedback. The result? The employee doesn’t really understand what you’re trying to say or the seriousness of the situation.

2. Back down if the employee becomes upset. While taking a time-out might be the best response when a person truly becomes unglued, revising your assessment downward or deciding “it’s not worth it” are never appropriate responses.

3. Avoid the conversation until you’ve “had it up to here.” When you wait until you are in a frustrated, take-no-prisoners state, not much good is going to come out of the conversation. The employee will likely feel attacked and will become defensive.

4. Use an overly formal or forceful opening. Managers often do this as a way to let the person know they mean business and/or to reduce the odds that the employee will “fight back.” While a formal, all-business demeanor is appropriate for very serious matters, it’s not necessary in many situations. Most people appreciate a more low-key approach that communicates, “We’re two adults here” instead of a “You are about to be scolded by the principal” tone that tends to trigger defensiveness.

5. “Control the airwaves.” Some managers present a monologue instead of encouraging a dialogue, believing this approach will prevent the employee from disagreeing or making excuses. In reality, the manager will trigger resentment and resistance in the employee.

6. State what you’re unhappy about without offering a clear picture of what you want. This approach doesn’t let the employee know what he needs to do to succeed, which leaves him feeling impotent.

7. Present an action plan without first getting agreement about the problem. A plan is meaningless unless the person understands what the issue is, what needs to be changed and why.

8. Give positive feedback without specifics. (e.g. “You’re awesome!”; “You do such a great job!”). This is especially counterproductive for people with personality styles that value data, precision, and detail. These people also tend to dislike flamboyant or emotional language. When they hear undefined and unspecified praise, they question the praise giver’s sincerity and knowledge about what they’re praising.

9. Mistake valid reasons for excuses. Some bosses are so worried about being taken advantage of that they’re unable to recognize valid reasons and extenuating circumstances. To them, everything other than a “You’re right, boss” agreement seems like an excuse. When employees feel that their legitimate points are seen as excuses, they shut out the accuser and become resentful.

10. Wait for annual performance review time to give feedback. This is a great way to spark confused “What are you talking about?” resentment-packed conversations. To be effective, feedback must be ongoing, addressing problems as they arise.

11. Use vague judgments without specific examples. Concepts like “more of a team player,” “more service oriented,” and “more professional” mean nothing. Labels without examples leave people feeling helpless about making changes because they don’t know what specifically you’re unhappy about or what you want.

12. Deliver a long preamble before giving the negative feedback. This just builds suspense for what they know is coming: the negative feedback. (“I really appreciate what a team player you are and I really love your attention to detail and I think you’re doing a great job with …. BUT…”).

13. Use blunt, provocative, or shaming language to make a point. There is no reason to resort to language like: “I would think that would be a no-brainer…”; “That train has left the station, so let’s move on, huh?” and so forth.

14. Pretend to agree and then disagree. “I can see why you feel that way, but…” There’s a difference between honestly acknowledging the other person’s viewpoint and just pretending to agree as a way to soften them up for your opposing point of view. You can acknowledge that you understand their perspective even if you don’t agree with it.

15. Wing it. Few things spark resentment or diminished respect for the critic than the feeling that one is being judged before the critic has thought through the possible angles and has gotten all the facts.

16. Tell someone what’s going on inside his head. You’re a manager, not a psychiatrist. If you have a good relationship with the employee, it’s fine to ask her if your guess about what’s going on is accurate; just don’t imply you know what’s going on inside her head—that’s presumptuous.

17. Use a “one size fits all” approach to praise. Our natural tendency is to praise people the way we like to be praised, but that only works for people who are like us. What works for some personality types doesn’t work for others.

18. Give feedback only when there is a problem. Gallup’s research reveals that 65% of employees say they did not receive any recognition in the previous year. Since positive feedback is a huge motivator, neglecting to give it is a huge mistake. If the only time you give feedback is to say something negative, your employees will automatically respond defensively the moment you try to give them feedback—not the ideal condition for a constructive conversation.

19. Use sarcasm to makec a point. Some humor—used judiciously—can lighten the tone and help diminish the sense of power differential that causes so much awkwardness when a boss gives a subordinate corrective feedback. That’s very different from using sarcasm or “just joking” comments to make a point, that is, “Oh, are you on the 8:23 a.m. to 4 p.m. shift now?”

Now…how about some constructive feedback for you?
If you’re serious about improving your feedback skills, give this article to your team members. Ask them to check off any “Don’ts” that you’ve made regarding providing feedback. It could be an eye opener.

By following up and asking for feedback about your performance, you:

Get a reality check
Show your employees you really do care about them
Let your employees know that what their input is important to you
Show you’re humble enough to hear feedback
Increase the odds that people will accept your feedback
Create a more engaged and motivated team
OK, now go get and give that feedback!

World stainless steel production started to show a recovery in the third quarter of 2009, with most regions increasing their output in the three-month period, the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) reported.

Third quarter stainless steel output increased by 12,5% to 7,06-million tons, when compared with the same period of 2008.

However, production volumes for the first nine months of 2009 reflected the volatile economic conditions of the year, with output decreasing by 15%. According to preliminary figures released by the ISSF this week, global stainless steel production fell to 17,9-million tons in the nine-month period, compared with 21,07-million tons a year earlier.

In 2007, global stainless steel output was 27,8-million tons, which decreased by 1,9-million tons in 2008 to 25,9-million tons.

Excluding China, stainless steel production in Asia was five-million tons in the first nine months of 2009, which was a year-on-year decline of 23%, owing to lower output in India and Japan, while production remained flat in Korea and Taiwan.

Stainless production in China was 6,6-million tons in the first nine months of 2009, an increase of 19,1% on the same period of 2008. The ISSF reported that China accounted for almost 37% of the world’s stainless production. At the end of the third quarter of 2008, China’s market share was 26%.

The Western Europe/Africa region produced 4,6-million tons of stainless during the first nine months of 2009, a decrease of 31,5%. Production also declined in the Americas region to 1,5-million tons, a 22,9% drop on the same period of 2008.

The volume of stainless produced in the Central and Eastern Europe region dropped by 38,23% to 0,2-million tons for the period.

The ISSF reported that more austenitic stainless were produced in the period, while production of ferritic stainless had declined because of a global drop in automobile manufacturing, which accounted for a large volume of chromium stainless.

The market share of chromium-manganese stainless steels has decreased over the course of 2009 owing to the recovery of stainless steel production outside China.

Slow Growth for Consumer Injection Molding

Mastio & Company’s most recent Injection Molding Markets Study forecasts slow growth in the next two years for injection molded appliances, furniture, housewares, and consumer electronics/telecommunications. Collectively, these market segments consumed 1.87 billion lb of injection molding resin in 2007. They are expected to reach 2.04 billion lb by 2010, representing an average annual growth rate (AAGR) of 2.9%. (Mastio’s forecast for other molded consumer products appeared in November. See Learn More box.)
Not only is growth slow, but profit margins are slim in this uncertain economy. Cost hikes for raw materials, energy, transportation/shipping, and labor are all squeezing profits. Imports, government policies, and consolidation in the retail sector have also kept profits low over the past few years. In particular, manufacturers have had a tough time passing on the rising costs of raw materials, and most have had to absorb as much of the cost as they can.
The health of these consumer molding markets is determined primarily by consumer confidence and the housing market. Although housing is in a slump, the 11.4 million homes that were built in the 1970s now require improvements, repairs, and updating. Remodeling should encourage the need for new housewares, furniture, appliances, etc.

SPEED TO MARKET
Resin consumption for injection molded housewares is expected to see only 2.7% AAGR through 2010. Plastic housewares are typically smaller, inexpensive, high-volume, low-margin products and thus are facing heavy pressure from imports. However, foreign housewares suppliers are at a disadvantage when it comes to identifying emerging trends in North American consumer demand. Domestic consumers expect an array of colors, styles, and textures, as well as improvements in durability and functionality. Foreign suppliers are much slower to the market with new products, giving domestic producers an advantage.

FURNITURE ON TOP
The furniture market is expected to experience the highest growth with an AAGR of 4.2%. This growth is attributable to a trend toward home remodeling and the increasing popularity of home offices. Lower labor costs and price cutting have made it difficult for furniture producers in the U.S. and Canada to compete with the Far East. However, furniture manufacturers claim that imports don’t affect large injection molded furniture items because of high shipping costs. One processor admitted to “China-proofing” its furniture products by making them bulky and hard to stack, implementing frequent color changes, and adding material-saving technology such as gas-assisted molding.

APPLIANCES & ELECTRONICS
Growth opportunities in appliances follow new residential housing construction, which stagnated in 2007 and 2008. Thus, the appliance market anticipates only a 2.5% AAGR through 2010.
A sluggish AAGR of 2.9% is also expected for consumer electronics and telecommunications. New technologies and product innovations are the name of the game when it comes to keeping demand afloat. Examples include advances in cell phones, thin, large-screen plasma or LCD televisions, and computer monitors that can receive digital, high-definition (HDTV) formats.

Nissan to unveil first mass produced electric car on Sunday

Japanese vehicle manufacturer Nissan will unveil its first mass-produced electric vehicle, due for launch in Japan and the US next year, on Sunday.

The five-door hatchback will have a range of 160 km before it would need recharging, says Nissan South Africa product engineering division vehicle test group manager Paul Gurney.

The vehicle is scheduled for its European debut in 2011, with the suitable global markets to follow in 2012.

Japanese production of the vehicle - its name remaining a secret - will start at 50 000 units a year, with other possible global production sites being scouted.

Gurney says the emphasis has been on developing a "valid vehicle" delivering a solid performance, with sales not necessarily driven by an environmental agenda, even though it is a zero-emission vehicle.

The vehicle makes use of an on-board computer to advise the driver on remaining battery (lithium-ion) range - with recharging happening overnight at a simple wall-plug or dedicated en-route station - as well as on the location of the nearest recharge station.

Gurney says Japanese fuel cost on a comparable internal combustion vehicle will come to around R600/month for a 1 000 km drive-distance, with the electric vehicle offering a recharge bill of roughly R120/month for the same distance

Nissan South Africa brand and corporate communications GM Pat Senne notes that South Africa may only receive the Nissan electric vehicle once certain measures are in place, such as recharging infrastructure, incentives, and once consumers have been educated on the use of such vehicles, which spells a radical shift from checking a fuel gauge.

The Japan launch will go hand-in-hand with government incentives, such as tax reductions, which will see the price of the much more expensive electric vehicle drop to equal that of a standard vehicle.

"Nissan South Africa is busy working with the Department of Trade and Industry on the concept of zero-emission vehicles," says Senne, unwilling to divulge more information.

Nissan has already signed partnership agreements with around 30 government bodies for the introduction of its electric vehicle worldwide. South Africa is not included in this number.

These agreements set the framework for the incentives necessary to make the launch of the electric vehicle viable.

Signatories include Singapore, Israel, Portugal, the US state Tennessee, Denmark and China.

Nissan South Africa product engineering division GM Fumio Uchiyama says the cost of the electric vehicle should reduce once economies of scale step in, and once battery technology improves.

The battery is the most expensive component of the vehicle.

Nissan has a target of reducing carbon dioxide emissions from its vehicles by 90% by 2050.

Hi all,

Good morning.

Last Saturday (25 July 2009), we did a VSE fire drill which is successfully by achieving below targetted time. Targetted time was 5 minutes but then our achievement time was 1 minutes and 40 seconds, which is very good.

The Fire Fighting Demo, Chemical Spilllage Demo and First Aid & CPR Demo was also successfull. Our ERC Members has done a very good Demo follow by the Volunteers among the employees about 6 of them (2 ladies and 4 gents). It is include our hero from RND, Mr CH Chong.

Kindly print all the JPG file according to your department code (color print) and use on the drill day at the assembly area. This is to make easy for your employees to find you without any confusions. Departments clerk have to prepare attendance list and leave a column for you to tick the names on the drill time. Once the attendance formats are ready, kindly email to me a copy.

Mitsubishi, Nissan and Toyota offer South African car and bakkie buyers the best sales and service experience, according to market research house Synovate’s 2009 Quality Awards for Sales and Service Satisfaction in the automotive industry.

The three Japanese brands have all scooped gold awards in the categories ‘Customer satisfaction when purchasing a passenger vehicle’, ‘Customer satisfaction when servicing a passenger vehicle’, ‘Customer satisfaction when purchasing a light commercial vehicle’, and ‘Customer satisfaction when servicing a light commercial vehicle’.

There are several gold award winners in the various categories, but only these three manufacturers have taken top honours in all four categories.

The Synovate awards are based on interviews with customers who bought or serviced a vehicle between January and December 2008, as part of the largest survey of South African vehicle owners.

Most manufacturers fared reasonable well.

In the category ‘Customer satisfaction when purchasing a passenger vehicle’, there are 11 gold award winners, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Chevrolet and Volkswagen.

“Manufacturers are perfec- ting the sales process,” says Synovate motor research client services head Roger Gibbs. “Especially in times of decreased sales, manufacturers are doing everything they can to ensure customers are happy when buying a car from their dealerships, and this is definitely one of the ways of securing repeat business and loyalty to their brand.”

In the category ‘Customer satisfaction when purchasing a light commercial vehicle’ (or bakkie), there are five gold award winners, including Isuzu and Opel.

The top achiever in ‘Customer satisfaction when servicing a passenger vehicle’ is Nissan, followed by Mitsubishi and Toyota. There are no other gold award winners.

“The service process is a relatively complex one and is generally a grudge purchase for consumers. Regarding satisfaction with the service, respondents are asked about their experience on arriving at the dealership, being booked in on time, being kept in the loop about progress on their vehicle and having their vehicle fixed right the first time, amongst a host of many other aspects,” says Gibbs.

Gold award winners in the category ‘Customer satisfaction when servicing a light commercial vehicle’ also include Isuzu.

The Synovate results are endorsed by the Department of Trade and Industry.

For various reasons, not all brands are included in the survey.

This may be because the manu- facturer chooses not to partici- pate, or because the sample is too small.

Manufacturers not included in this survey are Honda, Alfa, Smart, Jaguar, Hummer, Lexus and the Chinese and Indian vehicle brands.

The study includes around 90% of passenger car and light commercial vehicles in the South African vehicle market.

Last Friday and Saturday (10th and 11th July), 13 participants attend to Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Training at PLO 18..5 of the participants were from RND Department members(Farah, KC Liu,LW Chang, KY Poong and CK Tong) .. From that training all the information was very useful to us as an employee who is needed to adapt with working environment.

During the First Day, all participants can:-

1) Understand perception and its effect in working life. Perception is more like interpretation someone to others.

2) Develop self-awareness of one’s individual blind spots and suitable times for appropriate self- disclosure

3) Identify their emotional orientation with the LEONARD Personality Inventory. In this section, all participants know which categories person they are, It base on the Personality Test that already completed by participants before attend the training. In this test, there are 5 main category of personality- Openness; Neutral; Analytical; Relational and Decisive.

During the Second Day, all participants learn:-

1) Give constructive feedback. During this slot, we learn on best way we can give criticism and the best way we accept that criticism.
2) Practice TENT therapy
3) Emotionally excellent teamwork and leadership.
4) Stress management techniques

What we can summarize:-

1) This training can help us to develop self awareness for better interpersonal relationships

TYRE PRESSURE SENSOR Serco’s Preggie Govender and Phumlani Bayeni demonstrate the new P-Eye tyre pressure sensor

Some 68% of trucks, trailers and semitrailers checked during a recent study conducted in the Netherlands by Goodyear showed that the vehicles were being driven on underinflated tyres.

After two years of intensive market research, a truck and trailer tyre pressure monitor, dubbed the P-Eye, has been produced in the European country. The product is expected to significantly reduce costs on heavy vehicle maintenance.

The device is now available in South Africa from truck and trailer manufacturer Serco Industries, which has been awarded the sole agency to market the monitor in Southern Africa. 
Serco CEO Clinton Holcroft emphasises that the product saves on fuel, maintenance and labour costs and adds exponentially to road safety.

He says that a quarter of all commercial vehicle tyres are underinflated, increasing the wear and tear of the tyres by 15% to 20%. Most blow-outs and resulting accidents are also caused by insufficient tyre pressure.

A visual check on any vehicle fitted with the device enables an operator to quickly determine whether the vehicle’s tyres are sufficiently inflated, as it is fitted with a flashing light to warn the operator if the tyres are underinflated. This makes the system safer than manual checks. Underinflated tyres also have greater resistance and, hence, result in the vehicle burning more fuel and emitting more carbon into the atmosphere.

“The potential saving on labour costs for large-fleet managers is significant. Instead of having a team of staff manually checking tyre pressures, the job can be effectively done by fewer staff looking out for the flashing lights,” Holcroft says.

The monitor also replaces the tyre valve cap and monitors the preset minimum tyre pressure – if the pressure drops more than 5% below the required setting, the light-emitting diode lamp starts to blink.

Some of Serco’s recently built trailers have already been fitted with the monitoring system.

PUTRAJAYA, Wed: Thirty-eight new Influenza A(H1N1) cases, comprising 33 imported cases and five local transmissions, were reported today, bringing the total number of H1N1 cases in the country to 196.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said out of the 38 cases, 30 involved Malaysians, five were Indonesians and the other three were a Swede, a Palestinian and an Argentinean.He said the locally-infected cases involved three students of Sekolah Menengah Tsun Jin, Jalan Loke Yew Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, while the other two were contacts to the 143rd and 147th case, respectively.Currently, 86 patients were still receiving treatment for H1N1 and 110 patients had recovered from the disease, he added.Liow said two schools -- Sekolah Menengah Tsun Jin Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, and Sekolah Tinggi Chung Hwa, Seremban -- remain closed due to the H1N1 pandemic.

The number of quarantine cases was 4,668 and their quarantine period would end this Friday, he added.Liow also said that 29 more health clinics and five private hospitals in the Klang Valley are now equipped with facilities to conduct throat swab sample test to check for H1N1.

The private hospitals are Sunway Medical Centre, Pantai Medical Centre, Sime Darby Medical Centre, Gleaneagles Intan Medical Centre and Prince Court HospitalHe also said that the use of the rapid test kit to test for Influenza A(H1N1) was not allowed as it was not specifically made to detect H1N1.Liow also clarified that visitors entering the country would be quarantined or admitted to hospitals only if they had symptoms of being infected by H1N1.

For those in the same flight with a confirmed case, only those occupying the three seats nearest to the patient would be placed under quarantine, he added.On the current Influenza A(H1N1) situation in the country, Liow said it was serious but under control, and advised the public to take the necessary precaution against being infected by the disease."Many people say this pandemic does not have a high fatality, not serious. How does the influenza A (H1N1) virus spread?
Spread of this new virus is thought to be happening in the same way that seasonal flu spreads. Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing of people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

What should I do to keep from getting infected by the influenza A (H1N1) virus?
First and most important: wash your hands. Try to stay in good general health. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food. Try not touch surfaces that may be contaminated with the flu virus and avoid close contact with people who are sick.

3) Member can post any comment and suggestion to improve our department.

4) At the same time, all RND activities (outdoor activities such as dinner, etc) can published in this blog.

As conclusion, the function by creating our blog is to share any information that can give more benefits to our department members and at the same time to our company.

This is the Cyber home for VSI R&D Department. This new home will be used for sharing information amount our department.
